This vintage color lithograph postcard depicts the Newark Orphan Asylum in Newark, New Jersey. The front top header reads: "Newark Orphan Asylum. Newark, N. J." The back features green printed text designating "POST CARD", "THIS SPACE FOR WRITING", and "THIS SPACE FOR THE ADDRESS", alongside vertical margin text reading "Made in Germany".

Condition: This postcard was postmarked on March 31, 1911, in Newark, NJ, with a green 1-cent Benjamin Franklin stamp (U.S. Postage). Handwritten message on the back in fountain pen addressed to Miss Pauline Isenhardt in Elizabeth, NJ, signed by "Tillie." Softness on the corners, minor edge wear, light pencil mark near top right back, and slight age-toning typical for a card over 100 years old. Location History & Current Status

Built in 1856–1857 and designed by architect John Welch, the Newark Orphan Asylum is a striking Elizabethan Gothic Revival structure located on Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd (formerly High Street) in Newark, NJ. At the time of its construction, it was considered remarkably advanced, boasting modern innovations such as steam heat, hot and cold running water, and gas lighting to care for orphaned children. In 1947, the building was acquired by the Newark College of Engineering. Today, it is known as Eberhardt Hall, the oldest building on the campus of the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT). Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the building was fully restored in 2005 and currently serves as NJIT’s Alumni Center and administrative offices.
